About me
Sofia Hennen is a paintings conservator and art historian based in Brussels.
She studied Art History at the Free University of Brussels (ULB) and Conservation-Restoration of Easel Paintings at ENSAV La Cambre, in Brussels, obtaining bachelor's and master's degrees with high honours in both institutions.
She had several professional experiences in diverse museums and cultural institutions in Belgium, Spain and Chile, among others. For instance, she did internships at the Conservation and Restoration Centre of Chile (CNCR), the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) in Barcelona, The Prado Museum in Madrid, and the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA).
From 2018 to 2021, she was the Head Conservator of the São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP), where she organised national and international interdisciplinary projects and partnerships and established research, conservation and restoration methodologies and protocols. Since 2022, she has continued collaborating with MASP as an Associate Conservator and consultant on specific projects.
Since 2022, she has worked mainly in Belgium as a freelance conservator for diverse private clients and cultural institutions.
During her career, Sofia specialised in conserving and restoring paintings on canvas, copper and wood supports.
